I have been pondering the last words of people! Sounds a bit strange, but at the end of life what kinds of things do you hear?
"Are you ready, guys? Let's roll!"— Todd Beamer
"Money can't buy life."— Bob Marley
"Why not? After all it belongs to Him." — Charlie Chaplin
"I'm ready!"— Rosetta Reitz
"My God, what happened?"— Princess Diana
"Jesus, I love You. Jesus, I love You."— Mother Teresa
"Milt, take off your shoes."— Peg's last words to Milt before he passed :)
"Lord, help my poor soul." — Edgar Allen Poe
Since we just came through Good Friday, let's take a look at the last words of our Savior, Jesus Christ:
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."
Jesus forgave. Jesus even forgave those who were putting Him to death!
"Today you will be with me in paradise."
Jesus saved . One man hanging next to Jesus admitted Jesus is Lord and asked to be remembered.
"Behold your son; behold your mother."
Jesus cared. Jesus made sure that His mother and John, His closest follower, would take care of each other.
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Jesus hurt. Jesus felt physical and emotional pain: He knows what it means to be fully human.
"It is finished."
"Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."
Jesus decided. Jesus decided when this battle was finished--not the enemy!
Spend time thinking about each word spoken by Jesus. What do His words mean to you?
